In 1983 the churches in the Central Adirondack communities of Old Forge, Eagle Bay, Inlet, Raquette Lake and Big Moose identified the need for transportation of our citizens. Members from each church formed a board of directors with a borrowed van from one of the churches, and began transporting residents to medical appointments, social services appointments, church services and shopping trips.
In
1987 The Community Transportation Services Ltd. (CTS) of Old Forge, New York was founded as a not-for-profit organization 501 (c) (3) to formalize and coordinate this service. Our mission is to provide transportation for the elderly, disabled and disadvantaged persons in the Town of Webb and adjoining communities to necessary medical appointments on an as-needed basis. There is no similar public transportation available in this area, and we provide this service free of charge.
Our organization is all-volunteer. We transport persons to medical and dental appointments both locally and to Utica, Rome and beyond. On an annual basis, we transport approximately 350 riders making over 450 stops.
Our income is through free-will donations from town governments, businesses, groups and individuals. Our annual budget is about $24,000 of which over sixty percent (60%) is for insurance.
If this idea of community support fits in with your ideas about life, volunteerism, donations, etc., we welcome you to join us.
